Country at a Glance This United Nations site provides a short statistical overview (area, population, largest city, and nine other items) of member nations and an image of the flag.

Country Profiles Basic facts about nations along with extensive population and area information on cities, metropolitan areas, and divisions.

Country Studies/Area Handbook Handbooks about 71 countries of the world, prepared by the Library of Congress. Very thorough information including history, geography, and culture.

Flags of the World If you're looking for an image of a flag or the history of a flag -- this is the site for you. An excellent collection of flags of states, nations, and international organziations.

Infonation This United Nations site allows you to select up to seven UN-member nations and up to four data items and the program creates a comparisontable.

National Geographic Map Machine Atlas An excellent resource. Excellent maps, flags and basic data from the National Geographic Society (NGS).

Rulers A very comprehensive and impressive site containing a listing of heads of state and heads of government for the countries of the world (past and present). Also includes a listing of events which have caused changes to the list as well as upcoming events (elections, etc.) which may create a change to the list.
